Vertx EDC Commuter Sling Bag Review

I don’t always carry off body, but when I do, I carry Vertx.  I researched packs extensively before choosing an off body carry solution, and the Vertx line stood out.  I opted for the single strap Vertx EDC Commuter Sling Bag version, which is in the middle of their lineup, size wise.  The sling form factor also makes it easy to bring the pack around to the front for quick access.

The EDC Commuter Sling Bag has three compartments, all lined with very fine loop for attaching hook backed accessories.  The rearmost compartment isn’t very deep, so it’s best suited for your ‘hardware’.

The middle compartment is the biggest, with two mid size pockets for organizing contents, as well as a strap for securing a laptop or tablet.

The back of the rear and middle compartments are zippered with stiffener inserts that can be replaced with soft armor.

The front compartment has organization for various sized items, as well as a zipper pocket for smaller stuff.

The front of the pack has a zippered panel that can be opened to reveal loop covered molle webbing.  The panel itself can also be used as a beavertail by attaching the oversized G hooks to loops on either side of the pack.

The back of the pack has spacer mesh for airflow, and the strap has daisy chain webbing and a buckle up stabilizer strap.

The entire pack is overbuilt with heavy pack cloth, sturdy zippers and top notch stitching.  It also has the advantage of a low visual profile, not standing out as tactical.

As you can see, the pack will carry a wide range of hardware and other items with excellent organization.  I don’t have any of the Vertx tactigami accessories, instead using generic hook organizers.  If I had to do it over, I’d pass on cross compatibility with other platforms and just stick with the Vertx tactigami.

I can’t accurately estimate the pack’s total accuracy, so I won’t try.  In any case, the weight of the contents will push the limits of comfort with the single strap.  If you need to carry more than your hardware plus stuff for a workday or quick overnight, I’d check out their bigger conventional packs.

In short, the Vertx EDC Commuter sling pack is incredibly versatile, robust and low profile.  I’ve used it for short road trips, days out and about, as a carry on for air travel, hitting the range, and I’m very happy with it.
